The Birmingham-based company enjoyed above budget sales from June to August and surpassed a century of new client wins for the year for the first time in its history.

Nicklin believes the performance mirrors the improving picture in the UK economy. Nicklin, which supplies bespoke timber and corrugated packaging products and services nationwide, has also acquired a new 14,000ft2 factory unit to cope with growing demand for transit packaging.

Additionally, Nicklin has committed £200,000 towards machinery investment to develop its corrugated product offering from the new facility, with a further £100,000 expenditure scheduled on infrastructure improvements to meet the demand for single source supply via a broader product range, including packaging consumables.

“The packaging sector is a real bellwether of what’s happening in the overall economy so it’s hugely encouraging to have enjoyed such a buoyant summer,” said managing director David Nicklin.

“A range of respected indicators are now pointing towards more embedded growth in UK plc and we are certainly seeing significantly improved demand in our sector, particularly for bespoke transit packaging.”

Based in the Nechells area of Birmingham, the company employs 69 staff and turned over in excess of £6m in 2012.
