Two new trucks with low-emission diesel engines have been purchased by Tottenham-based timber merchant S&J Wackett in advance of changes to the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ).
LEZ changes in January require medium and heavy trucks to meet the Euro 4 emissions standard or incur a daily penalty charge. Commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes are being incorporated into the LEZ regime for the first time and must meet the Euro 3 standard.
A Mercedes-Benz Atego and a Fuso Canter were supplied to S&J Wackett by Mercedez-Benz commercial dealer S&B Commercials.
The vehicles are powered by Euro 5 compliant engines and fitted with lightweight all alloy single-dropside bodies by Enfield-based Hunter Vehicles. The Atego is also equipped with an Atlas 105.2 hydraulic crane.
The Atego boasts motor stop start technology which saves fuel by automatically switching off its 240hp 6.3-litre engine when the vehicle stops in traffic or at lights. The engine is restarted when the clutch is depressed.
The Canter’s 3C13’s 130hp 3-litre engine also meets the enhanced environmentally-friendly vehicle emissions standard, which is more stringent than Euro 5.
Wackett delivers softwoods, hardwoods, sheet materials and the Q-Deck (decking) and Q-Line (softwood mouldings) ranges across the capital.
