A Malaysian woodchip venture set up three years ago at a cost of M$10m has already recovered its investment.

The Tanjung Manis Resources plant, a joint venture between the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation and Kemena Wood Industries, recorded a M$14m turnover last year by exporting all its woodchips to Japan.

The factory is operating three shifts following the installation of a third production line in September. It is generating large quantities of wood residue because plywood producers and sawmills only use about 60% of logs in their operations.
