Timber importer Anglo-Norden Forest Products has been fined £3,000 for health and safety breaches at its Ipswich base.

The company admitted breaches during a hearing before South East Suffolk magistrates.

The court heard that the company’s vehicles, including forklift trucks, were not properly segregated from the public, who were able to walk and cycle alongside them at the Eagle Wharf site.

“Every year about 50 people are killed in incidents involving workplace transport,” said Health & Safety Executive inspector Jon Elven.

“This case demonstrates the importance of properly managing the risks from work vehicles where members of the public have access.”

Anglo-Norden also had to pay £7,300 costs.
