Uplands, built on Suffolk’s Shotley peninsula, won the Home Award – New Build category in the competition.

The house, designed by Freeland Rees Roberts Architects, reflects the owners’ interest in timber and woodland, featuring an upper storey in timber frame and oak cladding. A fully glazed staircase gives views of large oak trees which form a backdrop to the property, while the garden includes an oak pergola.

“Our clients have transformed the site,” said Jeremy Lander, director of Freeland Rees Roberts. “They now have a new state-of-the-art home which, although contemporary in style, also embodies craft skills and traditional materials that we hope make the house appear almost timeless,”
