A new timber company in Botswana is playing an active role in the economic diversification of the country, according to a government minister.

Ministry of trade and industry permanent secretary Banny Molosiwa, speaking at the offical opening of the Forestry Company of Zimbabwe (FCZ), said the firm was contributing to the country’s sustainable development strategies.

FCZ has invested more than P1.7m in setting up its business, which manufactures roof trusses, timber, plywood and doors.

The ministry is aiming to diversify the economy away from its dependence on the mining sector.
