An environmentally-friendly timber ticket office and shop has been constructed for visitors to one of Scotland’s oldest castles.
The 20m2 single-storey building was designed, manufactured and erected at Rothesay Castle on the Isle of Bute by Blyth-based Timber Frame Solutions.
Timber frame met all the criteria for the project as it is a naturally sustainable material, energy efficient, quick to erect, and prevents interstitial condensation.
Tradis panels were used for the external walls and roof, with each panel using 150mm Masonite beam studs for the walls and 200mm beams for roof plates. The cladding, doors and windows are all oak.
