Timber frame has come up trumps at the Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards, either winning or being highly commended in the majority of categories.

The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) and wood. for good say the awards represented a “fabulous” result for timber frame.

Timber houses won the best traditional home, and best ecological home categories, plus highly commended awards in the best basement home and best value for money home sections. It only missed out in the small house, renovation and conversion awards.

The award for best timber frame home, sponsored by the UKTFA and wood.for good, was won by Gruffyd and Jane Price for their moutainside home in Snowdonia, complete with solar panels. The five-bed home, featuring a “breathing-wall” design and a local stone and slate exterior, also scooped the eco home category.

Bryan Woodley, chief executive of UKTFA, said: “It shows just how successful timber frame is in delivering whatever today’s householder wants – whether it’s a traditional house, a contemporary house, a basement house, an ecological house, or a value-for-money home.”

Managing director of wood. for good Charles Trevor said the green credentials of sustainable wood, coupled with its energy efficiency will ensure timber frame “emerges as the optimum choice for a whole variety of buildings.”

Best traditional home was a new oak frame house in Shropshire, while a post and beam lakeside structure built on top of a self-contained concrete semi-basement in Preston was highly commended in the best basement home section.

A quirky three-bed house in Herefordshire featuring a timber frame from UKTFA-member Taylor Lane and shiplap timber cladding was highly commended in the best value section.
