Nearly a third of over-45s would consider purchasing a timber frame house, figures from Legal & General have revealed.
According to the insurer, 85% of Britons would consider buying an eco-friendly home, with 32% of over-45s saying that owning a timber framed property would drive their decision to invest in an eco-friendly house.
Other important factors in buying an environmentally-firendly home include carbon neutrality and having solar panels, with the over-45s once again leading the way in the results with 42% and 64% respectively favouring the green initiatives.
Overall, 40% of Britons told Legal & General that they favour a carbon-neutral home and 33% said that they would like a property constructed from locally-sourced materials.
“The environmental agenda is starting to influence the choices people make with respect to their homes,” said Ruth Wilkins, head of communications at Legal & General’s general insurance division.
The insurer released the figures, which form part of its ongoing Changing Face of British Homes research, following Gordon Brown’s speech to the Labour party conference on Monday, in which he announced plans to double the nomber of low and zero carbon homes being built in the UK.
