Scottish timber frame house manufacturer Nethan Valley Homes is predicting a turnover hike of 50% within two years after making inroads into the English market.

The Lesmahagow-based company, which expanded its capacity by taking over rival Kildonnan last November, has found a niche in the English market manufacturing timber frame student accommodation.

Working with developer the Unite Group, Nethan Valley has supplied several projects in Manchester, where it has opened an office, and Leeds.

With its predominantly Scottish self-build business also going well, sales manager Derek Hamilton predicts turnover to soar from £10m to £15m within two years.

He said: ‘The English market is absolutely massive and we have only just scratched the surface. But it is a hard market to break into.’

The company took over Kildonnan to increase its capacity, allowing it to grow its market share in England and retain its Scottish self-build customers. It hopes to relocate to a single-site manufacturing facility in two to three years.

The former Kildonnan operation at Stirling provides homes for the Scottish market and has increased overall manufacturing output by about 40%.

Nethan Valley is also providing self-build kits to the English market but in small volumes so far.

The company started 28 years ago supplying timber house kits to private clients and small builders but it now works with big developers such as Gleeson and Watkin & Jones.

Nethan Valley supplies all timber components for its projects, including floor joists, wall panels, roof components, windows and doors.
