Unique Timber Frame, based in Claudy, is enjoying record sales in Northern Ireland and the Republic, and has recently spent £70,000 on a new computerised timber cutting machine.

This is expected to result in greater flexibility, increased productivity and faster response times.

Having secured a series of contracts for housing developments and prestigious one-off building projects, owners Brian Grant and Gary Mullan say the business is on target to continue its high growth.

“Our success is based on the 20 years’ technical experience that we both have in the timber frame industry and also our focus on added value services to customers,” said Mr Grant.

He also said demand for timber frame homes was growing strongly because they were “quick to construct”. “This improves cost-effectiveness, while offering qualities such as natural insulation, thereby producing energy savings,” he added.

Unique Timber manufactures panels and other components at its 20,000ft2 factory on a three-acre site at Muldonagh. Mr Grant said it operated “rigorous quality standards and uses the best materials available”.

Growth at the company will mean three new jobs over the next 12 months. Unique Timber has been helped by Invest NI in areas such as marketing, particularly in the Republic of Ireland, where it does around 40% of its business.

With a further £300,000 investment, Unique Timber is projecting “significant” growth in employment and export sales.
