A boom in the number of timber frame houses being built in France has spurred UPM-Kymmene Wood SA to start importing American Trus Joist products.

Jacques Anttila, managing director of UPM-Kymmene Wood SA, the French sales unit of UPM-Kymmene Wood Products, said the move was the result of several factors.

‘The construction of timber frame housing in France is rapidly increasing, as is the utilisation of wood in housebuilding. Also, our company is orienting its marketing and production efforts more and more towards the building industry and these products will strengthen our presence.’

Mr Anttila says timber frame in France has been at the low level of 15,000 units a year; now it has grown to 25,000.
