The Robinson FE6 machine, which cost £65,000 to install and make operational, has replaced a 25-year-old Robinson of Rochdale machine, which branch manager Bob Short said had “given yeoman service”, and has already brought benefits to Timber Direct.

“The standard of finish is equally as good, if not better, as the old machine,” said Mr Short. “And as with all modern machinery, it allows for a quick profile change so brings speed as well as quality.”

Mr Short added that Timber Direct had been “pleasantly surprised” that the Wadkin machine had cost just £65,000 and that it has brought economic, as well as operational, gains.

Timber Direct is also preparing to take delivery of several new trucks to added to its existing fleet, with one 26-tonne vehicle already on the road and a second due to be delivered this month, a 12-tonne lorry coming on line around October and a six-wheel DAF featuring a rear steer axel, specified by the branch to improve access to sites and increase payload, scheduled to become operational by the end of the year.
