Trus Joist‘s Silent Floor System is being used in the conversion of a Victorian power station to create an unusual live-work development which is attracting international interest.

Trus Joist master dealer Palgrave Brown supplied the majority of TJI joists, metal connector plates and parallel strand lumber (PSL) for the Electric Wharf development in Coventry, which will feature 65 lofts, 21,500ft2 of offices and 24 eco-friendly live-work units.

Brian Harrabin, managing director of developer Harrabin Construction, said: ‘We were aiming for the minimum use of structural steel sections and needed a flooring solution that could therefore span long lengths.”

PSL is being used as structural posts, which will be left exposed and treated with intumescent lacquer.

The development, which includes the involvment of six artists to create a ‘funky’ environment, is being targeted at people in the creative and IT industries.
