The Outdoor Activities Centre in Whitlingham Country Park, designed by Snell Associates and built by ISG Jackson Special Projects, has received a commendation at the Design Awards for New Buildings to go with its Local Authority Building Control Built in Quality award.

The £1.6m centre is built almost entirely from timber and features eight cabins clad in marine plywood, decking constructed from structural grade flooring and a fabric canopy stretched across a glulam “rib cage”.

“[It] has proved a uniquely demanding project, incorporating a raft of innovative ideas and concepts,” said Michael Manning, construction director at ISG Jackson.
