The Timber Trade Federation’s (TTF’s) Education, Training and Careers (ETC) Committee has used two markedly different events to promote careers in the sector.

A team of industry representatives, including wood for good’s Eve Dennehy, Neil Stevens of Frame UK, Capricorn Timber’s Paul Ilnicki and Matt Collins, from Finnforest, staffed a stand at the University of Warwick’s Engineering & Technology Careers Fair on November 8, where more than 1,000 students were in attendance.

According to the team, interest in a career in the wood-based industries was strong with particular interest being paid to Napier University’s Centre for Timber Engineering Masters degree courses.

On the same day, a team comprising SCA Timber Supply’s Camilla Hair and Simon Thurman, Ewan Calcott from the Forestry Commission and Leah Williams from the British Woodworking Federation attended the Institute of Careers Guidance’s annual conference.

More than 300 careers advisers received timber industry documents in their delegate packs, with the team once again noting that interest in the sector was high.

“Combining everyone’s strengths through the TTF’s ETC Committee is achieving real results in promoting timber-related careers,” said Ms Hair.

Members of the ETC Committee are scheduled to attend the Leeds Careers Fair at David’s Church, Woodhouse Lane on November 26-27.
