Widely known as “the bridge to nowhere”, it has been moved from its original location at the Forestry Commission Scotland‘s mountain bike centre in Glentress, where it was constructed by the commission’s own engineers, to the Allt Daim river in the Highlands, where it will play a key part in the 2007 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships.
“The timber bridge is a brilliant addition to the course,” said Sarah MacLennan, recreation forester in the Lochaber Forest District.
“It will undoubtedly be a key feature of the trail…and will be a welcome rest for some at the end of the steep climb.”
Manufactured from stress laminated timber, the bridge spans the Allt Daim river at the top of the trail, as well as providing a link across the historic “puggy” railway line.
