Thailand is expected to put in place a progressive forest management law within the next few months.
The Community Forest Bill, which is expected to become law by next February, changes the way government relates to forest from ‘forest as state property’ to ‘forest as common resource’.
The changes will make members of the community key players in the management of forests for the first time.
