A list of 10 US forests “most at risk” from government policies has been published by environmental groups.

The Tongass National Forest in Alaska and the Bitterroot National Forest, Montana, are facing threats to water quality, endangered species and old growth trees as well as timber sales and roadbuilding, according to a coalition including Greenpeace and the National Forest Protection Alliance.

The group says the Bush administration has limited public comment, cut environmental protection laws and pushed for felling of big trees because of the fear of wildfires.
