Canadian forest products company Tembec has been awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for nearly three million acres of forest under its management.
The area, in the La Sarre sector of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, is the first public forest in Quebec to gain the standard for Canadian boreal forests.
Tembec received its certification from FSC-accredited certifier SmartWood, after an in-depth audit process.
James Lopez, Tembec president, said: “Our goal is to have all our Canadian forestry operations FSC-certified. So far, we have achieved 42% of this goal, as 13 million acres have been certified.”
