Tembec and the Nature Conservancy of Canada have reached a deal to protect forestlands from development following several years of negotiations.

The agreement, which creates one of the largest conservation easements in North America, allows limited logging on Tembec’s land in British Columbia as well as protecting the ecosystem. A wildlife corridor stretching along the Continental Divide will be formed.

The Conservancy is committed to purchasing 12km2 of land and negotiating donated permanent conservation covenants on 30km2.

Tembec is committed to a 10year development moratorium on 360km2 of land.
