Tembec Inc has reopened its C$12m mill in Cranbrook, British Columbia which was closed last year following the imposition of softwood lumber duties by the US.
The operation has been retooled to produce 24 million board feet of finger-jointed two-by-fours and other lumber for the US housing industry. Tembec believes the facility will improve the profitability of its BC division despite the duties.
