Tembec is shutting indefinitely three of its four sawmills in Québec’s Abitibi-Temiscamingue region, with the loss of around 430 jobs.

“This is a very challenging time for timber producers generally and for those in Québec in particular,” said Dennis Rounsville, president of Tembec’s forest products group.

“Demand has slowed in both the US and Canadian markets and prices have fallen significantly.” Tembec is unsure how long the three mills will remain closed.
