Tembec Industries of Canada has bought Davidson Industries for an undisclosed sum.
Davidson owns two sawmills – one in Québec producing eastern white pine and hardwood and one in New Hampshire, US producing eastern white pine. It also has a non-controlling interest in a radiata pine sawmill in Chile.
Davidson moved into Europe four years ago and has headquarters in Dublin and a UK sales office in Hatfield, Doncaster.
Fred LeClair, president of Tembec Forest Products Group, said the acquisition fitted well with Tembec’s strategy to grow its hardwood and softwood speciality products. ‘We will be able to offer a complete range of white and red pine products, hardwood lumber and high quality hardwood flooring,’ he said.
UK sales director Chris Skelton said Davidson Europe was pleased with the new situation: ‘We now have a more complete range of products and the knowledge that one of Canada’s largest forest products producers will enhance our position as one of the market leaders in eastern white pine and strengthen our presence in the UK and Irish solid hardwood flooring market’
