Housebuilder Andrew H Wilson Ltd devised an innovative method of constructing the homes almost entirely off-site in pods, each one finished externally and internally, including decoration, fixtures and fittings.

The pods are then erected on site, creating a complete house in a day and ready for occupation just a week later. Some 15 houses were constructed for Orkney Housing Association.

The TEK structural insulated panel system, comprising rigid urethane insulation sandwiched between two sheets of OSB, delivers a U-value of 0.20W/m2K.

Other energy efficiency features incorporated by Andrew H Wilson include an exhaust air heat pump and rainwater harvesting system which, combined with the TEK system, help the houses deliver a SAP rating of 115 and carbon index of 10.

Andrew H Wilson is a Kingspan-Century system supplier covering northern Scotland, including the Hebrides, Highlands, Orkney and the Shetland Islands.
