Taylor Made said two of its CNC machining centres were in need of modernisation, so it turned to German manufacturer Homag as it already had some Homag machines in its factory.
The new machines installed were two five-axis Homag BMG 611 CNC machines and a three-axis Weeke BHX 055 Optimat CNC.
Taylor Made said the biggest difference, compared with the older machines, was ease of programming, higher throughput, the user-friendly touch-screen interface and increased speed.
Homag supplied its own software with the machines – woodMotion, collisionControl and woodWOP.
Pat Coll, Taylor Made’s production director, said the Homag SORB TECH composite bed construction could absorb most vibrations in the machine frame, while the Tribos tooling system was giving a better surface finish.
"With the modern controls and increased processing power, the 5-axis paths are faster and smoother than those we had before, with better geometry tracking at high feed speeds," he said.
