The qualities of MDF were spelled out to Ireland’s woodworking teachers at the recent newly named TechnoTeachers Association annual conference in Galway.
Willamette Europe sponsored the conference which was attended by Ireland’s taoiseach, Bertie Ahern.
Dr John Guerin, technical and logistics manager of Willamette Europe, outlined the history of MDF, its rapid growth – nearly 20% each year since 1980 – and its major characteristics.
Dr Guerin devoted a large part of his address to strongly dispelling any concerns about health risks.
He said: ‘In more than 30 years’ usage there is no evidence that MDF is a health risk – contrary to ill-informed rumours that surface from time to time, it has never been banned in any part of the US or any other country.’
