Ta Ann Holdings Bhd could gain control of a timber licence covering 33,525ha in Sarawak.

The company, which has signed a memorandum of understanding with Borlin Sdn Bhd, needs to fulfil certain conditions to win the licence – including obtaining approval to extend it by a minimum of five years.

Borlin holds a Sarawak government timber licence in the Kubaan Puak stateland forest. Its timber area is also eligible for sustainable forest management (SFM) certification.

Ta Ann, which currently has areas which do not qualify for certification, would benefit from SFM certification as it takes over Borlin’s licence.

The certification would help improve the company’s sustainable forest management skills and ultimately help it work towards Malaysian Timber Certification Council and Forest Stewardship Council certification.
