The largest sawmill in Switzerland has launched a new log sourcing policy to cope with increasing demand.

Mayr-Melnhof’s Swiss Timber sawmill will now widen its net to purchase roundwood from the whole of Switzerland.

“Traditionally, we have sourced roundwood from the canton of Graubünden, but cannot cover our current needs by the existing offerings,” said sawmill manager Bernhard Ebner.

Roundwood purchasing will now also take place in the cantons of Bern, Zurich and St Gallen.

The initiative also involves pursuing a transparent and comprehensive pricing policy and establishing long-term partnership supply arrangements with the Swiss forestry industry.

Earlier this year, the Swiss Timber sawmill at Domat/Ems completed a CHF4.5 kilning investment.
