UCM Timber plc has appointed Brian Swift as non-executive chairman.

Mr Swift is a well-known figure in the trade for his experience with Brazilian species and has more than 30 years’ experience with the UCM group. He is now stepping down from day-to-day trading but will retain his connections in his new role.

Mr Swift is also a director of and significant shareholder in UCM Timber’s parent company, United Timber Trading Ltd.

“Almost everyone in the timber trade connected with Brazil will know Brian and he has been a great asset to the group,” said UCM Timber managing director Mark Plews.

“As a fellow director and shareholder, he has provided wise counsel and friendship for many years, so I am delighted that he has agreed to accept this new role rather than simply retire.”
