Swelite AB has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification for its Masonite Beam product to meet growing UK demand for environmental sourcing of wood products.

The Swedish company, which was audited by SGS South Africa (Pty) Ltd under the Qualifor Programme, has received an FSC certificate for the manufacture (FSC credit system) and sale of composite construction I-beams made from sawn timber and high density board (FSC Mixed).

Masonite Beams are distributed and technically supported in the UK by Longfield-based Masonite Beams (UK) Ltd.

Mark Wilson, the company’s managing director, said: “The FSC chain of custody certificate will allow us to formally satisfy the requirements of Housing Association buyers and assist the Eco Homes rating for new developments.”

He said the increasing awareness of the FSC brand meant it had been necessary to independently endorse Swelite’s strategic policy of sourcing raw materials from well-managed forests.

Current projects using the Masonite Beam include the Orchard School in Birmingham and Dog Care 9 at Melton Mowbray.
