Swedish timber producer BooForssjö AB has staked its claim to be one of the world’s oldest timber companies, by reaching the milestone of 500 years in business.

The anniversary passed on June 12, but will be celebrated with a party at a location close to the site where the company’s roots were laid on September 6.

Market director Roger Landström said 500 guests had been invited to mark the occasion, including customers, suppliers, employees and friends of the firm. “It will be a big party, with 500 guests celebrating our 500th birthday,” he said.

Mr Landström added BooForssjö could prove its age, with original documentation dating from June 12, 1508 hanging on the wall at the company’s offices. “It’s hard to read as it’s very faded and in old Swedish but it shows the date June 12, 1508.”

BooForssjö produces a range of timber products including sawn timber, panels, mouldings, solid flooring and wood pellets at sites in Sweden and Denmark, including Hjortkvarn, Forssjö, Pålsboda, Forneby, Mockfjärd and Dala-Floda.

News of BooForssjö’s 500th birthday follows German timber company Hirschbach GmbH celebrating its centenary.
