Alternatives to CCA wood treatment will be showcased at this summer’s Trä & Teknik/Elmia Timber trade show in Gothenburg.

Bitus AB, one of the larger wood treaters in Sweden, will unveil two treatment technologies at the show, held from August 21-24, as well as a new type of fire retardant wood.

‘Royal-impregnation’, basically deep-frying of timber in linseed oil, is combined with heat treatment to produce treated timber. Bitus AB, the first Swedish producer to use heat treatment, will be unveiling its first products treated with the method at the show.

The show will also see Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, displaying the acetylation treatment process, which uses acetic anhydride in impreg-nation to ward off wood-destroying fungi.
