The first “Super E” highly energy-efficient Canadian timber frame house has been built in Scotland.

Inverness-based Capital Homes Ltd in partnership with Interhabs UK, the UK agent for Canadian company Interhabs Ltd, has teamed up with the government of Canada to build the house at the Carn Mor development near Inverness.

The first Super E home in the UK was opened at West Malling in April 2002 and, due to demand, another 60 will be built during this year.

The Super E panels are delivered “flat pack” from Canada, with double-glazed timber windows, trussed rafters and cladding. The key to the energy efficiency is that the houses are completely air tight and ventilated mechanically.

Bill Nelson, managing director of Capital Homes, said: “By incorporating the many benefits offered by the Super E programme we believe we have continued to improve the overall quality of new housing available in the north of Scotland.”
