A Sunderland timber merchant has beaten its own ambitious targets by more than quadrupling annual sales to £2.6m.
Quality Timber, which expects to add another £1m in sales during 2008, has also been busy expanding its Pallion site, gaining Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification and taking a 50% stake in Team Mouldings. Its original target for the year had been £2m sales.
Joint director Tony Ferris put the success down to high service levels and never saying “no” to business opportunities.
“I think the market is doing very well,” he said. “Next year will be another year of massive growth and we’ll be looking to do £3.5m in sales. We can only see growth for the next two to three years.”
Quality Timber has invested about £200,000 during the past year, including taking a 50% stake in timber mouldings manufacturer Team Mouldings.
Team Mouldings is relocating to new premises situated just yards from Quality Timber’s base. A Schelling beam saw for cutting sheet materials has been added, with further equipment earmarked for purchase during 2008.
Quality Timber’s management has also expanded its site to 27,000ft² as it takes on more business from joinery and construction companies.
Other developments include installation of a Tanalith E treatment tank and an increase in staffing numbers to 18.
