The debate on the future shape of The Timber Trade Federation’s Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) and whether it should be mandatory for members should be settled by the summer.

That’s the hope of TTF president Neil Donaldson as he approaches the end of his period of office.

Addressing an audience of 300 at the Hull annual dinner of the North East Timber Trade Association (NETTA), Mr Donaldson admitted that the resolution of the RPP’s status had been difficult.

“It has been a bit of a millstone round my neck,” he said. “But I’m confident that by the time I leave office in June, we will have found a solution that is acceptable to all.”

The policy, he said, was designed “to prove to customers and government that we should be seen as a responsible trade” on environmentally sound timber sourcing.

NETTA chairman Pat Burke is also coming to the end of his term, but said he was confident the organisation would “continue to flourish” under his successor Peter Hunt.

An auction at the dinner raised £3,540 for the Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
