"We are delighted to have reached the milestone of the 200th successful installation of a Stromab programmable saw, and I was very pleased to hear the installation went smoothly and the machine is performing as expected," said JJ Smith managing director Martin Smith.

JJ Smith supplied a Stromab TR500 with a Matrix 3 control unit with optimisation and cutting list downloading.

JDP frames manager Mark Warton said the machine’s ethernet link back to the office was a real benefit as it helped the company prepare cutting lists remotely and download them to the saw while the machine was in production, eliminating programming time on the workshop floor.

He said 90% of cross-cutting was now done on the Stromab, enabling the firm to reduce cross-cutting manpower from two to one.

"We estimate that the payback for the machine should be between 16 to 18 months from installation," he added.

Nottingham-based JDP produces around 1,500 frames per week, most of which are supplied to group companies such as Celebrity, Cintique, Parker & Farr and Wade Upholstery.
