Panel product supplier Stramit Industries’ new acoustic floating floor solution is being used for NHS accommodation at St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight.

Suffolk-based Stramit’s ElecoFloor 36 system is being installed in an extension at St Mary’s which houses 100 self-contained flats.

The system, supplied by Wickham-based Sydenhams Ltd, is designed to meet the acoustic requirements of the revised Building Regulations. It is used as a floating floor above typical decking fixed to joists.

The product’s upper surface is moisture resistant, tongue and groove flooring grade chipboard over three layers of sheet material, which provide density to absorb sound. The company says ElecoFloor 36 reduces thickness above the joist by more than 50%.

Stramit director David White said: “This is a milestone project for us. We are proud to have been selected to supply the hospital’s flooring system and I am confident this will open up other opportunities for us to work with the NHS in the future.”
