The Honkalahti mill, which started manufacturing wood products in 1906, will see its planing line modernised during 2007 in a €500,000 investment designed to improve efficiency.

The mill is also collaborating with Stora Enso group company Puumerkki Oy, a builders materials wholesale business, and Vankkapuu Oy. Puumerkki will open a disribution centre in Honkalahti at the start of November, while Vankkapuu is to build a further-processing facility near the sawmill in the spring next year.

Co-operation will allow the companies to create a flexible service concept for their entire Finnsh customer base.

Honkalahti produces 350,000m3 of sawn timber and 70,000m3 of value-added products annually, of which 18,000m3 consists of components for the window and door industry.

Its main markets are Japan, the Mediterranean countries and Denmark. Further processed products are exported mainly to Scandinavia, Japan and Australia.
