Stora Enso is streamlining operations around its three core product areas – paper, packaging and forest products.

The reorganisation, to be implemented on May 1, is intended to improve co-ordination and co-operation between the units within the core product areas and to facilitate more focus on the company’s growth areas in North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Stora Enso’s current paper divisions will form the new Paper Product Area and the newsprint and magazine paper divisions will be merged to form the new Publication Papers division.

The packaging product area will comprise consumer boards, corrugated packaging, industrial papers and cores and coreboards.

Timber, the Pulp Competence Centre and forest will be brought together as the new Forest Products Area, headed by Arno Pelkonen. The aim is to achieve better coordination between sawmilling, pulping and wood procurement which will result in better integration of wood procurement and optimisation of global wood flows.

Stora Enso also intends to create a new Latin America division to manage local projects and co-ordinate sales activities.
