Stora Enso has renewed its business areas in a shake-up which will include the renaming of its wood products division as “Building and Living”.

The move comes just days after Metsäliitto announced a fine-tuning of its wood products division to invest more in promoting wood-based construction.

Stora Enso‘s new Building and Living division, created yesterday, is headed by executive vice-president Hannu Kasurinen.

“We are organising our businesses based on the different markets and customers they serve,” said Stora Enso CEO Jouko Karvinen.

“The aim is to increase our organisation’s competitiveness, flexibility, speed and accountability, and to minimise interdependences between the businesses to ensure that we have the ability and agility to seize opportunities arising from the changes in the global economy.”

Meanwhile, Metsäiitto said stricter energy efficiency requirements set out in Eurocodes would promote the competitiveness of wood in comparison to competing materials in residential and commercial construction and renovation.

Mesäliitto Wood Products Industry is being divided into three business lines: Building Products, Solid Wood and Timber and Upgrades.

Ari Tiukkanen has been appointed senior vice-president of Building Products, while Joni Lukkaroinen heads the Timber and Upgrades business line. Lasse Wikström is responsible for the plywood division.

The company said the changes would increase clarity in the division’s roles and responsibilities and help utilise synergies.
