A new €3.8m planing line opened by Stora Enso at the Näpi Sawmill in eastern Estonia will boost the company’s product offering in DIY markets.

The line in Rakvere, completed during the summer, has started production and is expected to reach full 60,000m3capacity during 2005.

Stora Enso has also acquired the assets of a bankrupt Scanforest site next to the Näpi mill. The assets include a planing line with 20,000m3 capacity, kilns, a warehouse, repair shop and a rail connection.

Planed products from Näpi will be distributed to industrial customers and the wood products trade in Estonia, Germany, Holland and the UK.

A major part of the production is for Stora Enso Timber’s Woodpax product portfolio, which is packed and shrink-wrapped in mini bundles for the DIY market.
