Stora Enso is investing €10m in pellet production at its Imavere Sawmill in Estonia.

Construction of the plant will start in the fourth quarter and will be completed in a year’s time.

The annual capacity of the plant will be 100,000 tonnes of pellets, using by-products from the sawmill and further processing operations.

“Imavere is one of our core sawmill sites, with a strong business concept and good basis for future development,” said executive vice-president Hannu Kasurinen.

“Through this investment we will further enhance the sawmill’s long-term competitiveness.”

Stora Enso aims to become the leading integrated supplier of pellets in northern Europe, already producing 310,000 tonnes at four sites in Sweden and Russia.
