Stora Enso has concluded final negotiations on permanent closure of its Kopparfors sawmill and pellet plant and is proceeding with plans to wind the facilities down by the year end.
The company said that the facility was loss making and that “there is no significant prospect of improvement”.
The company would now focus on site disposal and helping workers find new jobs.
“Now that the decision has been taken, we will strive to find options for every employee in co-operation with the local commuity and authorities,” said Stora Enso Wood Products executive vice-president Hannu Kasurinen. “We will also continue to look for other businesses to use the mill site. We have already had some contacts, which we can now analyse further.”
The Kopparfors mill produces 310,000m³ of sawn timber a year and the pellet plant 160,000 tonnes. The site employs 110 people.
