Stewart Milne Timber Systems has recorded a year-on-year sales increase of 13% as the overall group recorded record pre-tax profits of £42m for the year to June 30.

The timber division of the Aberdeen-based housebuilder recorded total sales of £81m during the year, with the development of the Sigma low-energy house at the BRE site in Watford, which recorded a Level 5 rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes, also helping the group to make “major progress”.

“[Stewart Milne Group] has been heavily involved in product development projects relating to zero carbon housing, which we are committed to delivering solutions in this important area,” said chairman and chief executive Stewart Milne.

“The housing industry will play a major part in meeting the government’s agenda in this area.”

The group’s record profits represent a 50% increase on the 2006 figure, with turnover also up 23% year-on-year to £428m.
