Stellac Wood Mikkeli has become the third producer of thermally-modified wood to enter the UK market, following a distribution deal agreement with James Latham plc.

Stellac will send its first cargo of “Stellac Wood” to the UK in July via Holland-based FHT Sales BV. The shipment will include cladding profiles and sawn sizes which can be further processed.

The company joins Stora Enso and Finnforest, which market the Thermowood-branded product, in targeting the UK thermally-modified timber market.

Jerry Wilson of Cardiff-based Sylvawood, the UK agent for FHT Sales, said sales of Stellac Wood were growing on the Continent, particularly in Holland and France, and anticipated UK demand would gain momentum during the second half of 2005.

Mr Wilson reports growing interest from architects in thermally-modified wood and end users have started asking how to obtain the product.

James Latham timber director John May said: “With its strong environmental credentials and performance guarantee, Stellac will satisfy the need for a stable, durable and eco-friendly product amongst manufacturers.”

Stellac Wood can be produced in redwood, whitewood or radiata pine and carries Komo certification on all three products.
