North American industrial treated wood products manufacturer Stella-Jones Inc is to acquire US-based Burke-Parsons-Bowlby Corporation (BPB).

A letter of intent has been entered into by Stella Jones to acquire BPB for US$33m, with the transaction expected to be finalised by April 1.

BPB began operations in 1955 and produces treated wood for the railroad industry from five plants in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky. The company had sales of US$85m for the year ending March 31, 2007.

Stella-Jones specialises in pressure treated railway ties and wood poles, with other products including marine and foundation pilings, construction timbers, highway guardrail posts and treated wood for bridges. Treated consumer lumber products are also made for lumber retailers and wholesalers.
