The German-based company, which has a new I-joist factory in Poland, says it is in talks with two large UK I-joist distributors and two big timber frame house manufacturers. It is also following up a high number of enquiries.

During August Steico organised two trips to its Polish I-beam plant which were attended by a number of I-joist distributors, timber frame manufacturers and representatives from the National House-Building Council and Napier University.

“They were very interested, not only in the I-joists but also our softboard product, from the environmentally-friendly side of things and as a building system,” said Steico spokesperson Heiko Seen.

The company expects to receive European Technical Approval for its I-joists by the end of September, while the full Steico range of products is being trialled on a bespoke house project in Oxford by sustainable developer Modus Global.

Steico will further push its products at the Self Build, Extend & Renovate Show in Dublin on September 1-3 and at The Timber Show on September 12-14.

“We hope to get some business in by the end of the year,” added Mr Seen.

Steico, which is marketing itself as a one-stop shop for the construction industry, also produces flexible and rigid insulation, renderboard and parquet and laminate underlay. Its I-joists comprise a hardboard web and solid timber flanges.
