As part of the restructuring of the Timber Trade Federation (TTF), the positions of head of communications and PA to the chief executive have been made redundant resulting in Mark O’Brien and Caroline Ready losing their jobs.

Mr O’Brien and Mrs Ready left the federation on Monday and chief executive John White said he would take over the communications functions while the PA role will be undertaken by Wendy Reid.

Mr White said that, although regrettable, the changes would enable the TTF to build for the future.

He paid tribute to both Mr O’Brien and Mrs Ready for their contribution to the work of the TTF over recent years and wished them well for the future.

TTF president John Tong said the loss of major players from the federation’s membership had affected income and steps had to be taken to remedy that.

“Last year we lived without a chief executive officer so we were in profit,” he said, “but that situation was unsustainable. We had to have a CEO.”

Mr White said no more redundancies were planned at the TTF and added: “It is a very difficult time for everyone here and we want to get over this initial step before going a bit more public on the future direction of the TTF.”

He said any member wishing to discuss the changes should contact him.
