The sale is due to take up to 45 days and will see production of plywood resume at the facility, which Weyerhaeuser closed in December 2006 along with its veneer plant in Coburg, although neither Weyerhaeuser nor Pacific State Industries has released financial or employment-related information regarding the sale of the Springfield plant.

“The plywood operations at Springfield will complement our existing production of veneer in Creswell, Oregon,” said Austin Vanderhof, executive vice-president of Pacific State Industries.

Pacific, which operates through its Redwood Empire division, has sawmills in northern California, distributing dimension wood products throughout the country. Its wholsesale group distributes decking, fencing, hardwood, landscaping products, panel products, softwood and treated timber.

At the time of its closure, the mill employed 87 people and had the capacity to produce 114,000 million ft2 of plywood per year.
